The secondary reformer is a key autothermal reactor equipment included in the synthesis gas unit for the production of synthetic ammonia. The furnace receives process gas from the outlet of the primary reformer and, by supplying preheated process air, uses the combustion heat of hydrogen to carry out high-temperature autothermal reforming. The equipment is lined with high-temperature refractory materials, and a layer of nickel catalyst is placed inside. Under conditions of high temperature 900–1000°C and pressure 2.0–3.2 MPa, deep conversion of residual methane is carried out, while the methane content in the source gas is reduced to a level of less than 0.5%; At the same time, nitrogen is introduced to precisely regulate the ratio of hydrogen and nitrogen, which makes it possible to obtain a conditioned source gas that fully satisfies the technological requirements of ammonia synthesis. The equipment does not require an external heat source, and is characterized by high conversion depth, stable operating mode, precision control of the component ratio and excellent energy consumption. Together with the primary reforming furnace, it forms a complete system for producing synthesis gas from hydrocarbons and is an indispensable key equipment for large-scale synthetic ammonia production plants.
